The event

Built around bikes.
Made for everyone.

Darvélo is a cycling festival with a deliberately broad idea of who belongs on a bike. Experienced road riders, families, social cyclists and people trying something new all have a place in it.

The rides lead out from Darvel into the Irvine Valley and return to a town-centre gathering at The Corner. Routes and activities change from year to year, but the principle stays the same: cycling is better when it is shared.

You do not need to ride to be part of Darvélo. The people lining the route, helping at the start, running stalls and staying for the music are every bit as much a part of the day.

The ride

Different wheels.
One start line.

01

Road rides

Longer challenges and relaxed social rides make the most of the quiet roads and open country around the upper Irvine Valley.

02

Family rides

Guided, sociable rides give younger cyclists and their families a confident way to take part together.

03

Try something new

Bike try-outs, skills activities and introductory sessions make room for curiosity as well as competition.

The routes, distances and registration arrangements are set for each edition. Check What’s On for the current programme.

More than cycling

The finish line
is only the
beginning.

As the rides return, The Corner becomes the centre of Darvélo: somewhere to meet, eat, hear live music, browse the stalls and swap stories from the road.

That mix matters. Darvélo is a cycling event, but it is also a day when the town centre is busy for all the right reasons.

Darvélo

Darvélo is organised through partnership, volunteering and the willingness to get practical things done. DART, local cycling organisations, businesses, performers, stallholders and dozens of volunteers each carry part of the load.

That is why the event feels like Darvel. It is not dropped into the town for a day; it is made here.

Darvélo memories

Every edition
leaves a trail.

The main Darvélo page stays evergreen. Photographs, programmes, routes, films and stories from individual years will form a growing set of memory pages—keeping each event without allowing last year’s details to date the next one.

Year-by-year Darvélo memories will be added here.

Ready for the next one?

yourself.

Dates, routes, registration and the day’s programme are published in What’s On when each edition is announced.
