Twenty-five
years.
One small
town.
A very big stage.
Since 2002, Darvel Music Company has brought an extraordinary list of musicians to the town. The names matter. So do the volunteers, audiences and crew who made every night possible.

2002—2026How it began
An anniversary
that found
its own encore.
The first Darvel Music Festival took place in 2002 as part of the town’s 250th anniversary celebrations. It could have been a successful one-off. Instead, the music kept coming.
The early festivals concentrated several concerts into a short run. The 2009 Homecoming programme, for example, presented seven concerts and 25 national and international performers.
The format changed over time. A broader concert series replaced the original festival pattern, while the commitment to high-quality live performance remained.
Musicians travelled to Darvel from across Scotland, the United Kingdom and beyond. Some made the town their only Scottish date. Audiences followed them here.

The Darvel Experience
Serious sound.
A listening
audience.
No distance.
Darvel’s reputation was built on more than the bill. Artists found high-calibre sound and lighting, an intimate room and a committed volunteer crew. Audiences came to listen.
“A very brave, exciting line-up — this has really put Darvel on the cultural map of Britain.”
Phil Cunningham
“Great community spirit and serious listening crowd.”

Beyond the concert
Music moved
through
the town.
The Bulletin’s approximate estimate of income brought into the local area between 2002 and 2025.
The concerts helped establish Darvel as a music town and gave cultural regeneration a sound people could actually hear.
Visitors arrived from across the UK and from countries including Canada, the United States and Japan. They bought tickets, stayed locally and spent money in the area.
The economic estimates are significant. The deeper value is less easily counted: confidence, identity and the memory of seeing a remarkable performer in a town hall or bowling club close to home.
Behind every night
The stage
belonged to
the volunteers too.
A concert begins long before the lights go down. Programming, finance, tickets, promotion, sponsorship, sound, lighting, photography, front of house and countless practical jobs all sit behind the performance.
Darvel Music Company’s 25th anniversary thanks everyone who supported live music in the town: the volunteer music crew, town hall and bowling club staff, technical teams, designers, funders, sponsors and audiences.
It gives particular thanks to Lynn Brown, whose vision began the festival in 2002, alongside Music Director Sheila McKenna, Music Producer Neil McKenna and Finance Treasurer Hugh Morton.
